Best practices for removal of bolted on dead front electrical covers

May 21, 2012 | Uncategorized

The removal and reinstallation of bolted on dead front covers poses a significant potential for an electric arc as well as the potential to inadvertently trip one or more circuit breakers.

One method to minimize this risk is as each dead front screw is removed –  screw a rod (3 – 3 1/2 inches long) in its place. The dead front cover is then removed from the panel utilizing the rods as a guide. The dead front cover is reinstalled on the panel using the rods for stability. Remove the rods as you replace them with the tap screws.
